Voorhees University will observe the Feast Day of Absalom Jones with a service on Tuesday, February 10, at 11 am. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this event at St. Phillip’s Chapel at Voorhees University - 386 Porter Drive, Denmark, SC.
The Reverend Absalom Jones was America’s first black priest (1746-1818). Born into slavery in Delaware at a time when slavery was being debated as immoral and undemocratic, he taught himself to read, using the New Testament as one of his resources.
