Please join us to watch FULLY AWAKE, a 60 minute documentary film about an important and innovative school in the mountains of Western North Carolina from 1933-1957 that birthed the American Avant Garde. Learn where the geodesic dome was born, the first multimedia happening and how the Bauhaus arrived in Black Mountain. Filmmaker Cathryn Davis (Reverend Courtney’s sister) has returned from a 2 month tour across the country sharing her powerful film. It is especially timely as the school existed during the McCarthy era, offering safe haven and creative license to its legendary community which inspires us today!

Fully Awake tells the story of Black Mountain College—an experimental school that radically reimagined education through art, community, and social responsibility. From Buckminster Fuller’s first dome to Merce Cunningham’s legendary dance company, its legacy still shapes the arts and civic life today. Black Mountain College is a powerful historical example of what is possible when creativity and community create magic ~ we will discuss how we can bring the spirit of Black Mountain College into our own lives and community following the screening.
